Day 22 257.9 lbs

Yesterday was a good day by all accounts. Sticking to the plan is yielding results I had only dreamed about in previous attempts. I want to put something into this writing so nobody can ever say I didn’t document this. This is MY ACCOUNT of what is going on with my experiment eating a whole foods plant based (WFPB) diet. Your mileage will and likely should vary. I don’t presume to know you, anything about you and I don’t recommend you change your diet based on my accounting of this experiment. This works for me. If you take diet advise from a Database guy you do so at your own peril! Moving on,..

Yesterday I ate 3 packages of quick oats for breakfast coupled with a banana and a small handful of walnuts. Lunch was a big salad with vinegar dressing, interlaced with another banana and 2 sumo mandarins (these are SOOOO good, get some while they’re in season!). When I got home it was some strawberries (organic, of course) and a few more walnuts. Then a 2 mile pace run to see where I’m at because I haven’t been running for a while and some chickpea tikka masala that I’ve come to find is comfort food! Claire found this recipe and it’s so damn good I look forward to eating more. That dish is in the rotation for sure.

No Man is an Island — John Donne

I’ve come to believe this. And to me it means we don’t accomplish things individually, but together. And without gratitude where it’s due is akin to being an island. I’m grateful for Claire in all of this because without her I wouldn’t be writing this but more importantly this journey wouldn’t be happening at all. She is my rock! I’ve heard it said that behind every great man is a great woman. While I’m not great, she is and that motivates me to do and be better.

I committed to run the Rock-n-Roll marathon in 2021. You read that right, it’s a fucking marathon! So, what now? Started running and biking to lose more weight and thus far it seems to be working. When you have this much to lose there’s no way it can’t, despite the metabolic winter hypothesis, activity is always required to stay warm in the winter. There’s no way our ancient ancestors stored enough wood for an entire winters warmth, or enough food to cover the stretch. They would have been required to work to stay warm, to clean, to eat. Contrast that to modern society and we don’t have to work very hard for those things comparatively, so there’s a need to exercise to some extent. That’s how I see it anyway.

Withings scale app says I’m down 16.2 this month. My goal is 20 and I have 9 days left to make it. Staying on target is critical!
